Elze – The Elzer judoka were overjoyed: they were finally able to host their popular tournament on Ascension Day again. After two years with a virtual substitute tournament, around 120 young athletes in the age groups U 9, U 11, U 13 and U 15 from eleven clubs in the Weser-Leinebergland region, but also from the districts of Hanover and Braunschweig, fought on Ascension Day for individual medals and the Challenge cup for the best club. MTV Elze provided the largest field of participants.

In addition to the organization, the Elzer trainers had their hands full looking after 39 fighters. This year, the organization also included admission and compliance with the hygiene concept, which was even stricter for this day to protect the children in the school sports hall. Fortunately, numerous parents also supported the implementation. The fights took place in the so-called “pool system”, ie up to five athletes fight in weight-related groups in the mode “everyone against everyone”. With Amilia Ahrens, Hannes Basse, Moritz Gattermann, Tristan Gerberding, Julian Hacker, Selma Hage, Elijah Hausser, Artur Lysenko, Emil Neumann, Linus Oehlmann, Cem Yüksel and Leandro Vancea, twelve judoka celebrated their competition debut in the U9s. Artjom Bartkoviak, who came to Elze from the Ukraine a few weeks ago, had just passed the test for the white and yellow belt at MTV and started his first competition in the U15s. It always gets exciting for everyone involved at the end of the event when all the results for the challenge cup are added up. Only the ten best results are included in order to do justice to clubs with fewer athletes. This year it was a very close head-to-head race between three clubs, which also shared the first places in the pools. 1st place went to MTV Vorsfelde with a one-point lead. The Elzer judoka and their very young team were happy about the 2nd place, ahead of the judoka from the judo team in Hanover…
