Everything ready for the 2022 Federal Women’s League

With the strong presence of 34 clubs and great renewed expectations, this weekend will be the first jump of the new edition of the Women’s Federal League. The Department of Competitions of the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CAB) confirmed details of the next contest, from its format and competition system, in the run-up to a season with important news.

The first big news is the increase in the number of teams, going from the 25 that participated in the 2021 season to the 34 that will perform in the current 2022 edition. This also speaks of greater geographical coverage and federalization of the event, which also allows there are more players within the orbit of the category, with young talent always present and greater possibilities for growth.

The contest will kick off on Saturday, May 7, with several of the regions having action over the course of the weekend. The 34 participating clubs were divided into 6 different regions/zones, where they will all play against each other.

Regions

Metropolitan Zone 1 (6 teams): Burzaco FC, Deportivo Berazategui, Villa España, Spanish Association of San Vicente, Peñarol de Mar del Plata and Reconquista de La Plata.

Metropolitan Region 2 (6 teams): Vélez Sarsfield, Moreno de Quilmes, Club Atlético Lanús, Unión Florida, Wilde Sporting and Centro Galicia.

South Region (7 teams): El Biguá Hunting and Fishing, Centennial Sports Association, Neuquén Pacific, Comodoro Rivadavia Gymnastics and Fencing, Puerto Madryn Patagonian Railway, YPF Sports Federation and Cipolletti Municipal School.

Coastal Region (8 teams): Tomás de Rocamora, Zaninetti, Paraná Workshops, United Youth, Rosario Temperley, Gobernador Gálvez RPB Workshops, Ben Hur Club, San Nicolás Regatta.

NEA Region (4 teams): Olympic of La Banda, Quimsa of Santiago del Estero, San Lorenzo de Tostado and Hércules de Charata.

Central Region (3 teams): Club General Paz Junior, Club Atlético Olimpia and Club Atlético Riachuelo.

According to the regions, due to variation in the composition of their groups, they will have different game modalities to be detailed: both groups from the Metropolitan Zone (6 teams each) will play in a round-trip format; same case for those that make up the Coastal Zone and the South Zone (8 teams each); the NEA Zone (4 teams) will have three round trip rounds; and the Central Zone (3 teams) will play a triangular in each of its venues.

The two best teams from each region will qualify for the next phase, in which they will make up three home runs. Of these homers, the first two classified will continue in the race in a third stage that will have two triangles, and thus two from each group will reach the last instance of the Women’s Federal League that will be defined with a Final Homer.

Team Composition

It is important to highlight the fact that, beyond the Good Faith List that each club presents, the roster that the teams may present in each match will have to be made up of 8 older players and 4 players under 20 years of age. For their part, those teams that play in the Women’s League and that will also participate in the Women’s Federal League, per game must present 2 older and 10 players under 20 years of age.
