Exceptional water jumper: Patrick Hausding ends his career – sport

According to media reports, Germany’s best water jumper Patrick Hausding is ending his career. This was reported by “Bild” and rbb on Tuesday evening. The 33-year-old wanted to speak at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday (11:00 a.m.).

There are many reasons for this step, Hausding told rbb. “On the one hand, the Olympic Games in Tokyo were another sporting highlight for me. Secondly, with Corona and the war in Ukraine, it is currently difficult for us athletes to maintain the competitive character. And thirdly, it was already a bit planned for me anyway,” explained the Berliner. He is “no longer the youngest and has experienced a lot. And life goes on at some point.”

He was the best German jumper for years. In 2008, Hausding won silver in synchronized diving from the tower with Sascha Klein at the Olympic Games in Beijing. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro he won bronze from the three-meter diving board and, at the end of his Olympic career last summer in Tokyo, bronze in the three-meter synchronized jumping with Lars Rüdiger.

In the Japanese capital, Hausding led the German team as the flag bearer together with beach volleyball player Laura Ludwig at the opening ceremony.

Record European champion Hausding also secured numerous medals at world championships and continental title fights. Again and again the exceptional athlete had to struggle with injury problems. (dpa)
