Fightin Phils lost the Sea Dogs for the third consecutive time

Reading Fighting Fils scored three goals in the first half and maintained a 7-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday at Hadlock Field and earned part of their streak of six straight games.

Portland won their first three games of the series, including a double header win on Thursday, before Reading took the bottom three places.

Fightin Phils quickly began to take the lead in the halftime double RBI of Aldrem Corredor, Logan O’Hoppe and Chris Sharpe. Simon Museotti scored a solo in the fourth inning to bring the score 5-0, and Sharpe scored a two-round solo in the seventh inning to give Reading a 7-1 lead.

Christian Koss struck three times in the seventh inning for Portland.

The seahorse pitcher who started Victor Santos dropped to 2-3, allowing for five runs in seven shots in four rounds. James MacArthur of Reading took his first win of the season, conceding a one-on-two run, scoring five points and not six.

Tennis

Opening in Madrid: Carlos Alcaraz capped off another fantastic week by defeating Alexander Zverev to win the Madrid Open and become the second youngest player to win two Masters 1000 titles.

After victories over his idol Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals and number one Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, the 3-seeded Spanish teenager comfortably defeated Zverev 6-3, 6-1.

Alcaraz became the youngest winner in Madrid and the second youngest to win two Masters 1000 titles after Nadal’s wins in Monte Carlo and Rome in 2005. Alcaraz had already become the youngest player to enter the top 10 since Nadal he did in 2005.

European tour: Thorbjorn Olesen’s eagle-Birdie finished for the second consecutive day by winning the British Masters by a stroke dramatically in Sutton Coldfield, England, clinching his first European Tour title in nearly four years and kicking off the his career after a devastating court case.

Olsen scored 1 of 73 to finish a shot in front of Sebastian Soderberg (68) at Belfry.

Soderbergh finished 9-under 279 which seemed like enough to win.

South African Justin Walters (71), Scottish duo Conor Sim (70) and Richie Ramsey (71) shared a three-way tie for third place.

Cycling

Tour of Italy: Mark Cavendish celebrated his return to the Giro d’Italia by winning a set at the end of the third stage while Mathieu van der Poel kept the pink jersey.

Cavendish, who is riding with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, raised his arms above his head and fired a wide shot after crossing the finish line in front of Arnaud Demare and Fernando Gaviria.

The 36-year-old’s victory came in the 16th stage of the Giro, which hadn’t run the Italian Grand Prix for nine years.

Women’s Super League: Two goals from Sam Kerr helped Chelsea snatch their third straight women’s Premier League title on the final matchday of the season with a 4-2 win over Manchester United.

The comeback against United after falling twice ensured Arsenal didn’t outwit Chelsea with a 2-0 win over West Ham at the same time.
