The Swiss were more active in shooting from the beginning, but the spectators in the Deck Arena had to wait until the 28th minute for the first goal. Both teams did not use the power play in the first period, the Finns could not punish even the second foul of the opponent, and because of that they collected first. The score was opened by Riat, who used Mottet’s ideal pass.
The Swiss goalkeeper Aeschlimann scored only one intervention in the second part, his counterpart Olkinuora was in significantly greater permanence and collected 50 seconds before the end of the third for the second time. Striker Lausanne beat him again in numerical advantage.
Right at the beginning of the final twenty-minute period, at 40:52, Pesonen lowered, but the Swiss managed to gain a two-goal lead back thanks to Bertschy. The Finns countered once more, but they could not equalize even in the final power play, which was raised by the exclusion of Bertschy.
Both teams will now move to Stockholm, where they will play against Sweden and the Czech Republic. The Finns will be the opponent of the Czech team on Saturday.
