Mérida will host the Interuniversity American Games, -FISU American Games- an event attended by 16 countries of the continent with 16 sports disciplines in the same number of venues in our city. José de Jesús Williams, rector of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, highlighted that some 3,000 athletes from the continent attend this sports event.
Leading the flag of the delegation of university students who will attend the 2022 Universiade, Chancellor Williams. He stressed that the international event will take place in Mérida, with the Salvador Alvarado stadium as its main venue. He reported that the organizing committee advances in the details of the registration of the students who will come to our city, so there are still important details.
He explained that this event is endorsed by the International Federation of University Sports (FISU) that organizes the World Interuniversity Sports Games, where Mexico will have a selective representation that takes place in this 2022 Universiade that takes place in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.
He explained that this event is attended by 100 Yucatecan students representing the Model, Anahuac-Mayab and Autonomous University of Yucatan who will travel this week to compete in 17 modalities ranging from chess to team sports such as baseball, basketball and athletics.
He emphasized that the venue for the American Interuniversity Games was authorized since November of last year and a committee was formed that has followed up on the organization process, therefore, last November technical visits were made in sports areas of the Yucatecan capital.
He pointed out that the competition will be held in October 2022, organized by the National Sports Commission and with UADY as host. The “Salvador Alvarado” stadium will host the inauguration of the great event.
The FISU American Games 2022 is organized by the National Commission for Sports in Education (CONDDE) and will have UADY as host.
He added that, last November, Alim Maluf Neto, President of FISU America, was in Mérida, who made the inspection visit to the sports venues, hotels, infrastructure and mobility mechanisms for the celebration of this important event.
According to what has been established, the venues in Mérida will be: the Universidad Anáhuac Mayab for the disciplines of archery and soccer, the Universidad Marista: soccer, the Club Campestre will accommodate tennis, and basketball games will be played in the Francisco de Montejo Unit. -taekwondo-judo, at the Siglo XXI Convention Center: badminton-table tennis and it will also be the dining room.
In addition, the Carlos Iturralde stadium: soccer and the Kukulcán Sports complex: swimming-diving-indoor soccer-indoor volleyball-basketball.
One of the important points was the inspection at the emblematic “Salvador Alvarado” Stadium, the venue where the opening ceremony of this event will take place, in addition to the athletics competition. The “house of Yucatecan sports” was the venue for the inauguration of the UADY 2019 National Universiade.
