Michael Young
They report the high-level complete, the triumph of the German Michael Young last week at the all-important top-tier Lexington Kentucky. And they not only commented that it was his fourth victory -the one who has won the most times-, but that he has done it with 20.1 points, the best score in the history of the great American team. And he did it with the 14-year-old FISCHERCHIPMUNK. The Marcus Ehning of the complete. A rider who perfectly combines the high-level complete with the equally important jump as they already did Mark Todd, Luis Alvarez Cervera, Peder Fredricson…
In equestrian competitions, not only the number of participants is important, but also the level and those who compete, and this has been the case in this Lexington as in all its editions. Unquestionable, therefore, more merit for the one from Bad Soden (Hesse) for having been 2nd for the British Yasmin Ingham con BANZAI DU LOR (SF 2011, Nouma d´Auzay-Carthago / Livarot-Brilloso-Furioso xx) with which last year he won the CCI****L of Blenheim, 3rd the American Doug Payne con QUANTUM LEAP (ZW 2011, Quite Capitol-Quidam de Revel / Corporate Report xx) with which the Elkton CCI***** L also did well last year…
CHIPIMUNK
This Hanoverian with 53.47% blood and son of Contendro is from the maternal line of the exceptional SAM with whom Jung has achieved great successes, such as winning Badminton in 2016, and being 3rd in Lexington 2015 in which he won with ROCANA; because the mother of both is by the thoroughbred born in Czechoslovakia heraldry (1982, Caramel / Cale-Tanerko), considered by many to be one of the most important stallions in the stud farm. It should be mentioned that in Spain we had a great jumper son of Heraldik HERALD (dam by Lorenz-Ladykiller xx) competitor at the highest level with Pilar Cordon.
CHIPMUNK was assembled before by the German Julia Krajewski educating him from the age of 4. With him in 2018 he won the CCI*** of Bramham, the CCIO*** of Aachen… And later in the same year he competed in the JEM of Tryon and in the cross he had a breakaway (the German team 5th), to then move on to Jung’s stables. Curiously, the Amazon was individual gold in the past Olympic Games in Tokyo with B´NEVILLE ALMOND (2010 SF mare, Oscar de Fontaines-Lando-Lancier-Landgraf / Elan de la Cour-Vas and Donc Longane-Gand Veneur) in which Jung did it with CHIPMUNK in which he was 8th because they gave him 11 points in the cross in a obstacle. AMANDE DE B´NEVILLE is a half-sister by Oscar de Fontaines to many competing horses in jumping at 1.40; and uterine sister of competitors in the same height jump EPURE DE B´NEVILLE (Bisquet Balou van de Misperale) with the British J. Clee y UREDO DE B NEVILLE (Apache d´Adriers) with the Italian F. Maffeis.
CHIPMUNK translates into English as Listed Squirrel, which is still anecdotal because the horse was bred in Germany where there are no such squirrels.
Start Badminton with logics removed
Badminton begins tomorrow (4-8), another very important complete like Lexington (although some say that Burghley is even more difficult). Looking at the final list, it is seen that some pre-registered students do not compete. It is something that always happens. The last gallops are very demanding and mean that there are horses in not the best conditions.
So the British no longer compete Oliver Townend -No. 1 in the ranking- with COOLEY MASTER CLASS (with which he won Lexington in 2018 and 2019) and with REDIRE DORCHA, but he does so with SWALOW SPRINGS, TRELIDGER and BALLGMOR CLASS (with which he won Lexington in 2021). was 2nd in Badminton 1994 with ARMADA own brother NEREO (CDE) with which the New Zealander Andrew Nicholson he won it in 2017 and Nicholson also won Lexington in 2013 with QUIMBO (CDE).
Piggi March French winner of the last edition of Badminton with VANIR KAMIRA does it with the Irish mare, but at the last minute she has withdrawn BOOKFIELD INOCENT.
Harry Meade has withdrawn TENAREZE and CAVALIER CRYSTAL, but not AWAY CRUISING. The father of him the deceased Sir Richard -He has trained several Spaniards taking them to a high level- he won Badminton in 1970 with THE POACHER and in 1982 with SPECULATOR.
The French Luc Chateau has withdrawn TROBADOUR CAMPHOUX, Zara Phillips of Tindall a CLASS AFFAIR, Izzy Taylor a ARTFUL TRINITY, Pippa Funnell to MAJAS HOPE (does it with GRAFTON STREET), the Irish Joseph Murhy to CALMARO, the New Zealander Samantha Lissington a RICKER RIDGE RUI…
Eric Winter’s Badminton design that competed in the contest
The design of the Badminton cross is made by the British Eric Winter who has competed at Badminton and Burghley. He has won tests of importance. He has competed at Hickstead.
Lexington’s design for a former jockey who has already won it. He designed the last JJ.OO
Derek has Grace designed Lexington, who won it in 1985 with SASQUAATCH. And likewise, he designed the already named Tokyo Olympics.
Frank Wekdon won badminton and designed it for many years
Frank Weldon he won Badmiton in 1995 with KILBARRY and designed it between 1965 and 1968.
our excellence
In Spain, the Frenchman has designed up to four stars Pierre Michelet who did great Badminton. At the moment, in our country it no longer does. He has designed JJOO, JEM, Cto de Europa… As a rider he did it in JEM, Cto. from Europe, winner of international tests. He is not too surprising in a country where you want to pass the course with failing grades, where getting honors is more elitism than merit… What a future!
