On April 23, 2022 in Caudebec-les-Elbeuf (Seine-Maritime) in the under 73 kg category, Hugo Rua became the first Normandy para-judo champion adapted from the Livarot club.
“I won the two fights I had to do,” he says simply.
And what a great victory, because Hugo started judo only five years ago.
“Within the club, Hugo is very appreciated and his inclusion is total”, underlines the secretary, Géraldine Leroyer, who followed in 2019 a training with Laura Baggenstos and Florence Leroyer to welcome within the club athletes with disabilities.
The club is thus affiliated with the French Federation of Adapted Sports (FFSA).
On June 3 and 4, Hugo will participate in the French para-judo championship which will take place in Mèze, in the Hérault.
But before this next test, the young judoka must work on his technique for grabbing the kimono of his opponents.
Hugo is determined, attentive and he does not get discouraged. He is always on time, polite, always applies during lessons. He is serious and hardworking. It’s kind of an example for others. When he returns from the French championship, we will gradually prepare him for the passage of the black belt ”says the president of the club, Jacques Leroyer.
Three other young judokas from the club are preparing to pass the black belt tests, Paul Lepeltier, Nolan Ducroquet and Émile Doligez.
