“Sports for Social Summit 2022 summer”, an online event for sports and social contribution, will be held from June 7th (Tuesday) to June 9th (Thursday), 2022. We will introduce the highlights for each session.
In Session.1, which is the opening session, the team managers of the three sports that are leading the professional sports world in Japan will be on stage under the title “How should professional sports teams promote social contribution activities?”
Speakers
Nobuo Motozawa (President and CEO of DeNA Kawasaki Brave Thunders Co., Ltd.)
Toru Enoki (Representative Director of Oita Football Club Co., Ltd.)
Takashi Yamaya (President and CEO of Shizuoka Blue Revs Co., Ltd.)
You can “enjoy together, together,” because you play sports
Mr. Nobuo Motozawa, CEO of Kawasaki Brave Thunders, will be on stage from the professional basketball league “B.LEAGUE”. Kawasaki Brave Thunders launched the “& ONE Project” in 2020 and is “independently” working as a sports club to achieve the SDGs goals.
I’ll do it so far.Beyond the Kawasaki Brave Thunders “& ONE” projectThe most exposed SDGs event in the B League during the 2020-2021 season. It is Kawasaki Brave Thunders’ “& ONE days” (held for 2 days on March 26th and 27th). The “& ONE” project started in September 2020. We talked to President Nobuo Motosawa (hereinafter referred to as Motosawa), who is the project leader himself and leads the activities, about the summary and the future. …
Mr. Motozawa, who leads the & ONE project as a leader himself, says that “strength,” “popularity,” and “independent social and community contribution” are important elements of a sports team loved by the community. .. The SDGs are one of the indicators that realize the proactive contribution to society and the community. As a team, we have decided to seriously work on the SDGs, which have a high affinity with the beloved element of “independent social and community contribution,” and are developing activities that involve not only staff but also athletes.
In “& ONE days”, a day to tackle all the goals of SDGs17, we are working on many SDGs actions such as selling local vegetables at the venue.
Earlier, Mr. Motozawa said this in an interview with Sports for Social.
I understand the idea, but I don’t feel it for myself, but I think there are many things in the world that society should do. If you go through sports, you can say “everyone, together, and have fun”, which may be a childish way of saying it. I think that is the great power of sports, and that is why I think that sports clubs should take the initiative in such activities for society.
To realize a diversity society through universal sports
The “Universal Sports Experience Corner” is held at the home game venue of Oita Trinita, which belongs to the Japan Professional Soccer League (commonly known as the J League). Supporters who visit the game can experience para-competitions (universal sports) such as powerlifting and wheelchair basketball.
Universal sports that everyone can participate in and enjoy, regardless of nationality, gender, or age, will lead to the realization of a diversity society.
From “know” to “experience”. Let’s spread, a compassionate heart. ~ Oita Trinita ~In J-League Oita Trinita, we cooperate with Net One Systems Co., Ltd., a uniform sponsor and social action partner, to create a society …
Speaking of the J League, we have abolished the company name from the beginning and have been advocating community-based. Among them, Oita Trinita, which was established from the citizens’ club, has been making efforts to contribute to the community and understand diversity even before the recent trend of SDGs.
In addition, efforts with the away team will start from this season. The activity called “Used clothes de vaccine” calls on supporters not only at home game venues but also at away game venues to collect used clothes. Not only is it a hometown activity in our area, but it is also an activity that involves opponents and people in other areas as a social contribution activity, and we will ask about its effects and reactions.
“Sports teams cannot exist without contributing to society.”
Shizuoka Blue Revs belongs to Japan Rugby League One, which started in 2021. The team name was changed to Yamaha Motor Jubilo for professionalization. Clarified the intention to walk with the community.
Mr. Takashi Yamaya, the representative, clearly states that “sports teams cannot exist without contributing to society.” How do you position and promote “social contribution” even though it is a team with a new league and a new system that has just been established?
Also pay attention to Mr. Yamatani’s passion, who said, “Sports are not absolutely necessary for living. Therefore, they cannot exist unless they contribute to the happiness of the community, which is necessary for society.” ..
Highlights of this session
A talk session by the managers of three professional sports teams with different sports. Social contribution activities may look like poses if you work halfway, and if you do not work with continuity, it will not really benefit society, the community, and the team. How do they think and guide as managers? There are many interesting points, such as what they have in common and what are the differences between regions, events, and history.
Please pay attention to the sessions that will be of great reference not only to those involved in the sports business but also to how to proceed with social contribution activities as a company.
