Kumar Rocker, the still valued American prospect, remains firm in his desire to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) team and makes the decision to play for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Frontier League, an independent league allied to MLB, to show that he is in good shape to sign with a team in the 2022 Draft, since he remains eligible.

The plan, according to different reports, is for Kumar Rocker to report to the ValleyCats, which are based in Troy, New York, at the end of May, and to pitch until before the Draft, which will take place in Los Angeles, California. on July 17.
Rocker is also known because in the 2021 Draft he was chosen as the tenth pick in the first round by the New York Mets, but agreed not to stay with the player due to problems with his elbow and shoulder. The bonus they would give him was $6 million dollars, but the New York organization doubted the pitcher’s health and decided not to complete the acquisition.
“Immediately after the conclusion of his college season, he underwent an MRI on both his shoulder and elbow. Compared to her MRI from 2018, medical experts found no significant changes. Kumar does not require medical attention and will continue to pitch in the regular course as he prepares to begin his professional career.” Scott Boras, the player’s agent, said at the time.
The 22-year-old right-handed pitcher, during his stay at Vanderbilt University, an institution recognized for having and developing important prospects for the MLB, went 28-10 with a 2.89 ERA in 42 outings (39 starts). Rocker also starred in a game with no hits or runs, also giving 19 strikeouts to the Duke Blue Devils.
Now his new challenge will be with the Tri-City ValleyCats, formerly the Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Surely many scouts will be after him again in the coming weeks
