Alejandro Kirk scored on a defensive error by outfielder Juan Lagares in the 9th inning to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
Kirk set the tone at the start of the 9th by hitting a single against Raisel Iglesias (1-3), before advancing to 2nd base on a sacrifice bunt.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. then singled to right field, advancing Kirk to 3rd base, and Kirk raced to home plate when Lagares misjudged the ball’s trajectory.
Gurriel had three hits in the game, while Kirk had two for the Jays, who have won seven of their last 10 games.
Jared Walsh and Tyler Wade homered for the Angels, who were without Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Rendon on the starting lineup.
Ohtani came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth, but was struck out by Jordan Romano to end the fight. Romano recorded his 15th save of the season.
Jays starter Alek Manoah totaled nine strikeouts, a season high, but allowed three runs on seven hits, including home runs by Walsh and Wade.
