The MLP Academics Heidelberg have found a new coach for the coming season. The newly promoted sign Joonas Iisalo.

Iisalo is coming to Heidelberg from Telekom Baskets Bonn, as the Neckarstadt team confirmed on Tuesday. The Finn, who has been given a two-year contract, is currently supporting his brother Tuomas as an assistant coach. Previously, he had also been extremely successful at his side with the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim.
“With Joonas we have hired a coach who brings a new approach and philosophy to the game,” said sports advisor Alex Vogel, who is also known as a TV expert. “His ideas fit very well with our intended direction for the coming years.”
The Heidelberg team announced last week that Branislav Ignjatovic’s contract would not be extended. The Serb had looked after the MLP Academics for eight years and led them to the Bundesliga. However, the group of shareholders decided unanimously to give the team new impetus. This season, the Heidelbergers are in 14th place.
