Montilla hosts the U-13 and U-17 Masters National Badminton Championship

This weekend will take place in Montilla the Andalucía TOP Master Sub-13 and Sub-17, which will be organized by the Spanish Badminton Federation, the Andalusian Badminton Federation and the Montilla Badminton Club, an event that will be made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, the City Council of Montilla and the Diputación de Córdoba. The Sports delegate, Miguel Sánchez, explained that “Montilla is betting on competitions at the highest level” and wanted to thank the Montilla Badminton Club for their efforts and for getting “that their players are already present in these tournaments”.

In addition, the councilor explained that “a championship of this quality, with minor categories, brings the whole family with it, so the economic impact is remarkable and has already been felt both in hotels, as well as in restaurants, and visits to different monuments, wineries… throughout the weekend”.

According to the president of the Montilla Badminton Club, Blas Casado, this TOP Master is classified as a “n2”, only surpassed by the TOP Final Master, so the quality of the tournament is assured, bringing together in Montilla the best Sub volantistas -13 and Sub-17 of the national scene. In total, up to 109 players (148 registrations) will land in the Municipal Pavilion of Montilla to try to take the coveted gold medal.

As for the number of clubs, we will be able to see a total of 40 different teams, which is a large figure that also shows the diversity of clubs that we will have, coming from the different autonomous communities. Of these 40, it should be noted that 13 will be Andalusian, which is the case of Almería, Arjonilla, Baena, Benalmádena, IES La Orden, Granada, Huelva, La Encina, La Unión, Montilla, Rinconada, Rute and Volante Rute. Due to the number of players that will take to the event, CB Benalmádena stands out among the Andalusians (with a total of 5), and from outside our community, CB Granollers stands out (with a total of 9).

The competition will begin on Saturday at the Municipal Pavilion of Montilla at 10:00 in the morning, and will end at around 19:30 in the afternoon, the time of the last match scheduled for the quarterfinals. This TOP Master n2 will continue on Sunday with the semifinals and finals, which will crown the champions.

Regarding Montilla’s participation, the president of the Montillano club explained that there will be two players in the tournament, Miguel Carrasco and Miguel Augilar, “who will play doubles being already classified among the top 20 in Spain in their category, Sub 17”. and, in the case of Miguel Aguilar, he has already managed to get into the individual box, “which shows that we are getting results with the schools even though this is not our priority goal,” he said.

The vice president of the Andalusian Badminton Federation, Antonio Aguilar, also wanted to emphasize that this championship comes to Montilla not only because it is a strategically located town in the center of Andalusia, but also because “it has appropriate facilities and support from the institutions , two aspects that are fundamental for this type of event”.
