One of the targets of the leaks promoted by “Football Leaks”, which revealed “obscure” financial transactions in the world of European professional football and tax tricks, Cristiano Ronaldo gave explanations about the alleged controversies in which he was involved in testimony given to the Portuguese police at the beginning of June, as a witness. According to the newspaper, the Portuguese star, five times elected the best player in the world, was heard by the police both as a witness and as a victim. The meeting, which took place with “all discretion”, was held in Lisbon, when the player was at the service of the Portugal team to play in the Final Four of the League of Nations, a competition that the Portuguese country won the title.

The statement took place because the Portuguese striker from Juventus was one of the main protagonists of the leaks made by his compatriot Rui Pinto, in what became known as “Football Leaks”. Rui Pinto, the 30-year-old hacker responsible for the leaks, was extradited from Hungary in March at the request of his country’s authorities, who suspect he had accessed the computer systems of Sporting Lisbon, the club where Cristiano Ronaldo began his professional career. , and the investment fund Doyen Sports.

Last Wednesday, Rui’s lawyers accused the Portuguese authorities of organizing a “judicial persecution” against their client. Previously, Rui Pinto demanded the payment of an amount between 500 thousand and one million euros from the Doyen Sports group in order not to expose the compromising documents, but, according to his lawyers, he ended up giving up “voluntarily”.
