NFL 2022: Jarrett Stidham, the last failed ‘successor’ of Tom Brady, leaves the Patriots and is traded to the Raiders

Lto life after Tom Brady in New England, for a few months, she considered being commanded by Jarrett Stidham. Today, the day the 2022 schedule is announced, the Patriots cut ties with the last ‘heir’ that never came true and they sent the QB instead to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Albert Breer de Sports Illustrated announced that the Pats send Stidham and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick to Las Vegas, in exchange for a sixth-round pick that year, reuniting the QB with his former offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, now the Raiders’ head coach.

In three years with the Pats, Stidham played eight games, none starting. He completed 24 of 48 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He arrives at the Raiders to fight to be the substitute for Derek Carr, with Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert in the squad and at least the two of them have experience as starters, although not in the scheme of the new coach.

Jarrett Stidham, one of 10 QBs chosen by the Patriots in the Brady Era Draft.

Stidham was elected in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft, the last one before Brady left, coming from the University of Auburnalthough he began his university career at Baylor. After the departure of TB12, it was almost a weekly ritual to talk about how well he was performing in trainingwho was a ‘Mini Brady’, but never amounted to anything.

The Patriots opted to sign Cam Newton and modify his entire offensive scheme instead of giving Stidham the car keys, to such an extent that when the veteran quarterback got coronavirus, the starter against the Chiefs was Brian Hoyernot the second-year quarterback.

In 2021, the Pats took Mac Jones in the first round, practically putting an end to the short-lived Stidham Era, which officially ended Thursday, being the last of the dozen quarterbacks that the Patriots chose since 2002 despite having Brady on the team; a waste. Just for reference: the Packers they had Favre and Rodgers and they picked eight (including Rodgers); Chargers, Saints and Colts chose six. It doesn’t make much sense to pick quarterbacks when you have a franchise QB… let alone the GOAT.

The quarterbacks chosen in the Draft by the Patriots since 2001

Since Tom Brady took over as the Patriots’ starter due to Drew Bledsoe’s injury in 2001, New England eligió a 10 quarterbacks to be his deputies and, later, his successors. Needless to say, it didn’t pan out, because TB12 is still playing and by 2022 there will be more head coaches (Kingsbury and O’Connell) than starting quarterbacks (one at most, Garoppolo) in the NFL between that decade of picks.
