A story that ends like the best. A dream was this season for Óscar Estupiñán being very close to European competitions and getting on the radar of the Colombian National Team. The change of generation has to come in the national team and the 25-year-old Estupiñán undoubtedly attracts attention. His goals in Portugal also alert clubs in Europe.
Although there has not yet been a formal offer from a European club, the Caleño’s ambition is to stay playing in the ‘old continent’. Atlético Nacional and Corinthians are really interested, but Óscar Estupiñán does not want to return to South America and with his numbers it is expected that a European team will want to have the striker.
His first team was Once Caldas, where he scored goals and caught the attention of Vitória Guimarães, who hired him in 2017. Later, after a year in Portugal, he went to Barcelona in Ecuador, went through the Turkish Denizlispor and returned to Portuguese football.
2021-22 was his best season in Europe scoring 15 goals in the local rent, and positioning his name at the top of European football. However, the day came and the striker from Cali said goodbye on his social networks.
‘It is never easy to make the decision to leave a place where I was so happy. They were wonderful seasons, where I gave my best, giving myself in each training session and trying to give back in each game, all the love they gave me since I arrived. They showed me why they are just different. It is a passion that goes beyond 90 minutes and a part of my heart will always be part of Vitória Sport Clube’, commented Óscar Estupiñán.
He also added, ‘the time has come when our paths will part. I am the player that I am thanks to all of you and I will be eternally grateful. For this and much more, I want to thank everyone for these beautiful years we have spent. To my teammates, the club’s coaching staff and especially the Vitória fans.
