Russia and Belarus out of qualifying for the World Cup and beyond

Following the decision taken on March 1, 2022 and confirmed by the Central Council on March 25, 2022, not to allow Russian teams and officials to participate in the FIBA ​​Basketball and 3 × 3 Basketball competitions, the FIBA ​​Executive Committee today confirmed the following decisions regarding the Russian Federation of basketball (RBF) and the Belarusian Basketball Federation (BBF) for the FIBA ​​basketball competitions that will take place in the coming months.

The Executive Committee of the FIBA ​​has decided as follows:

• No official FIBA ​​basketball competition will be held in Russia or Belarus until further notice.

• The RBF and BBF teams must be withdrawn from the following FIBA competitions for national teams :

FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers La
Russia is withdrawn from Group H and Belarus is withdrawn from Group B of the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers, with no replacement teams nominated. All results of both teams are canceled and, as a result, the rest of the teams in the Group advance to the second round of Qualifiers with 4 games played. To rank the teams in these two groups (H and G; A and B) evenly, first round matches against the bottom ranked teams in Group G and Group A will not be considered for the Group L and I standings.

FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 La
Russia withdraws from the FIBA ​​U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 which will be played in Hungary from 9 to 17 July. The replacement team is Serbia, second in Group B of the FIBA ​​U16 Women’s European Challenger 2021 and the only second team in any group that did not qualify (qualification in that group was awarded to host Hungary who finished third).

Russia withdraws from the FIBA ​​Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 which will be played in Australia from 22 September to 1 October. Belarus are withdrawn from the FIBA ​​3 × 3 Europe Cup Qualifiers 2022. There will be no substitute teams.
Russia are withdrawn from the FIBA ​​3 × 3 Europe Cup 2022. The replacement teams will qualify through the FIBA ​​3 × 3 Europe Cup Qualifiers 2022.

FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup Qualifiers 2022
Belarus are withdrawn from the FIBA ​​3 × 3 U17 Europe Cup Qualifiers 2022. There will be no substitute teams.

FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup 2022 La
Belarus is withdrawn from the FIBA ​​3 × 3 U18 World Cup 2022. The next ranked teams, Belgium women’s and Lithuania men’s, will be invited to participate.

• Teams representing Russian or Belarusian clubs or cities, as well as Russian and Belarusian players, cannot register and qualifiers will not be held in Russia or Belarus for the following FIBA 3 × 3 Pro Circuit events :

The FIBA ​​European Zone Council and the Champions League Basketball Council have been asked to make corresponding decisions for their respective national teams and club competitions, which will be communicated in the coming days.
