Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Clubs celebrate 50 years of WHO with sporting events

It was in temperatures worthy of the month of August that around forty athletes, all levels combined, took part this Saturday afternoon, May 21, in the canoVTTathlon organized by the Municipal Sports Office ( WHO) of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. The WHO celebrated its 50th anniversary by 50 hours of sport over three days, on 20, 21 and 22 May with activities reserved for the general public and others only for club members.

This Saturday afternoon, the participants in the canoVTTathlon all came from a club: triathlon, Access Vie, handball, etc. “We agreed to represent Judo Côte de lumière but suddenly it’s the club leader who looks after our children, smile Estelle and Brice. We are happy to do it, the formula allows you to discover other sports. »

“The events were organized in a spirit of meeting, not competitions, hence the supplies at different points”, calls Samuel Charrier, sports educator, to the megaphone before the start. On the program for the sports afternoon, those registered first went for a run in the tennis courts of Jaunay, learned archery on the outdoor ground on Rue de la Vallée Moinard, left for bike & run (bike relay, race) to tennis, before riding a mountain bike to high school for an introduction to climbing, a return to mountain biking and finally a canoe trip on the Jaunay. The cycling club and the CanoVTTathlon association have been called upon to supervise the running and cycling races.

“We are very happy to participate, it’s a multigenerational activity and there is a good atmosphere”, confirms Jean-Paul, 74, a worthy representative of the Alcyons club and certainly one of the oldest in the event.

The day before Friday, 110 people took part in the walks organized by the WHO and this Saturday morning there were around 80 on their bikes for different walks. The entertainment continues again this Sunday, in particular with a nautical gathering on the Grande Plage de Saint-Gilles to discover nautical sports (surfing, kitesurfing, sand yachting, etc.).
