Coleen Rooney announced on social networks in October 2019 that she had long suspected that someone in her circle of friends was giving private information to the press. She then blocked all accounts except Rebekah Vardy on her private Instagram account and posted several made-up stories – which then found their way into the “Sun”. So Vardy was the one responsible, Rooney concluded. Her former girlfriend rejected this and now wants to have Rooney withdraw the allegations.
The husbands stay out of the argument publicly. Wayne Rooney, currently coach of the relegated second division side Derby County, was considered the “enfant terrible” of English football because of numerous scandals surrounding excess drinking and extramarital affairs. Jamie Vardy, who strikes for the first division club Leicester City, has also attracted negative attention off the pitch in the past.
