The thermometer shows 27 degrees at peak time in Paris on Thursday. About as hot as the possible hits of the French Open, which Losfee Quentin Fillon Mallet (29) pulls out of the trophy!
The five-time Beijing medalist in biathlon lost defending champion Novak Djokovic, record winner Rafael Nadal (ATP 5) and Stan Wawrinka (ATP 257) in the same quarter – the Roland Garros winners of the last twelve years.
Nadal and Wawrinka, who faces Corentin Moutet (ATP 139) in the first round, could face each other in the second round. In the quarterfinals there would then be a hammer duel with the world number 1.
Tsitsipas with luck?
In the lower half, Alexander Zverev (ATP 3) and Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 6), who could form the second quarter-final of the extremely strong upper tableau, are waiting.
Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 5) emerges as the supposed winner. Last year’s finalist meets Lorenzo Musetti (ATP 57) in the first round, but avoids other top ten players until a possible semi-final. Henri Laaksonen (ATP 95), meanwhile, will debut against Pedro Martinez (ATP 43).
Bencic’s way not without
Belinda Bencic (WTA 14) opens the clay major against a qualifier. The tableau half of the Olympic champion is not without. Bianca Andreescu (WTA 72), Leylah Fernandez (WTA 17) and then Maria Sakkari (WTA 4) could wait in the coming rounds. Jil Teichmann (WTA 24), who reported fit after the Rome task, meets Bernarda Pera (WTA 39) at the beginning. Viktorija Golubic (WTA 60) on Katie Volynets (WTA 136).
Two Swiss tennis cracks can still hope for one of the remaining qualifying places. Alexander Ritschard (ATP 204) has to play the last round against Camilo Ugo Carabelli (ATP 154) and Joanne Züger (WTA 217) against Fernanda Contreras Gomez (WTA 156).
