Wilstermann ended the worst campaign in recent years in the Copa Sudamericana, after losing 2-0 to Everton yesterday at the Félix Capriles stadium.
With this result Wilstermann sank to the bottom of the group D table with only 2 units, the product of two draws, none at home. While the Chilean team finished second in the series with 11 points.
The qualifier was Sao Paulo with 16 points, which yesterday beat Ayacucho FC 1-0, which finished in third place with 5 points.
The aviator team could not improve the campaign of the last edition of the Copa Sudamericana, in which they added 5 points.
The first half of the match was very balanced, in which both teams had clear plays in the opposite goal. The visit generated the first risk play with Adrián Sánchez’s shot that goalkeeper Bruno Poveda managed to deflect to the corner kick (7’PT).
In Wilstermann’s first arrival, José Herrera was unable to give direction to his touch, when he swept into the area and sent the ball over the goal (13’PT).
The clearest for the visit was generated after a defense error that left Pedro Campos alone, who finished off, but fortunately for Wilstermann the ball hit the crossbar (33’PT).
When the game was going on without clear moves for either team, the scoreboard opened in favor of Everton.
A misintelligence of the red central defense allowed Matías Campos to receive a cross behind Santiago Echeverría’s back, who made a delayed pass for Ismael Sosa, and he beat Poveda, with a low shot at 37’ST, for the 1-0.
Wilstermann tried to react after the goal; however, Everton took advantage of the red team’s spaces in defence.
That is how Everton’s second goal came, at 44’ST, with a long-range goal from Julián Cuevas (2-0).
Wilstermann will enter a break until Wednesday of next week.
