Tigres advance in basketball 3×3 – University Life

The Tigres team of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) of basketball 3×3 was placed in the quarter finals of the National Universiade 2022.

For the men’s team, their passage to the next round was thanks to the two victories achieved on the court against the sheep from the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Aguascalientes and Campus Santa Fe, respectively.

“I think we are strong, but we have to focus more on the game. In the first two games we were very accurate in scoring,” highlighted UANL basketball player Rodrigo Basilio Chávez.

In 3×3 basketball, the game is played for 10 minutes where the first team to reach 21 points wins or the one with the most points in regular time.

The first duel was won by the Autonomous University of Nuevo León by a score of 21-10, with 2 minutes and 4 seconds remaining for the match to end.

Meanwhile, for the second game against the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Santa Fe, the Auriazules defeated their rivals 22-6 with 3 minutes and 34 seconds remaining in the duel.

“Our goal is to reach the final to secure a medal,” visualized the student from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Already for the third match, UANL fell in a tight game 16-15 against the Autonomous University of Sinaloa.

For Saturday, May 21, the UANL Tigers will continue with their activity in the tournament to go in search of a 3×3 basketball medal within the 2022 National Universiade.

The women’s team had activity in the Adapted Gym “Lic. Benito Juárez García”, this May 20 in the debut of the 3×3 basketball modality at the National Universiade.

“It is a slightly different modality, which we are not really used to, but it is good for basketball to be promoted more. It is a competition now also at the Universiade, and we have to make the most of it and get the most out of it,” said coach Guillermo Torres Salinas.

The felines managed to advance to the quarterfinals with victory in two of three sets. The representative of the UANL obtained his pass to the quarterfinals after facing the Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla (UPAEP) and the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Chihuahua, with very close results 21-12, 18-08 respectively; in the group phase they fell 9-15 against the Technological Institute of Sonora.

The selection process of the Tigres players for the 3X3 basketball discipline had been carried out since 2020, as it was considered the debut of this modality at the National Universiade, however, it did not materialize when that edition was canceled due to the pandemic.

“They are the girls who had already played in the qualifying rounds, but then the Universiade was not held, so they had already had a stage there, we hope that it will continue to go well for us and tomorrow it will go even better,” said Guillermo Torres.
