Last Saturday, the IV Torrezno de Soria Badminton Tournament was held at the Fuente del Rey sports center in the capital, organized jointly by the Soriana Badminton Delegation and the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club.
An annual event marked on the national badminton calendar that brought together 110 players from Castilla y León, Madrid, Aragón, Navarra, Galicia, Cantabria and the Basque Country, who just for participating received a tray of torreznos thanks to the support and effort of the Association of Manufacturers of Torrezno de Soria as well as by the company La Despensa.
In the senior category, the forecasts were fulfilled and the players from Soria won three gold medals, one silver and four bronze medals.
In the men’s individual of the A1 category, Víctor Ortega from the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club won the gold and David Hernansanz the bronze. The latter also won gold in men’s doubles together with AD89 Sergio Latorre from Burgos.
Another double was achieved by Cristina Puebla, winning the women’s doubles together with the player from Leganés Beatriz Martín and the silver medal together with her partner Sergio Latorre.
Santiago Martínez also won bronze medals, both in the men’s doubles with his partner Manuel Acero in the B2 category and in the mixed doubles A2 with Beatriz Martín, as well as Manuel in the individual C1 category.
At the same time, the competition for players in the sub-13 and sub-17 categories was played with good results for the players from Soria.
Undoubtedly the clear favorite in the U-17 category and current number one in the national ranking, Javier Barrios, player from Soria of the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club, did not give his rivals options and won the gold medal in the individual modality with certain ease.
In the men’s doubles category, Jorge Ayllón and Adrián Diez won the silver medal despite being first-year players in this category.
Already in the sub-13 category, the players Naroa Alvaro and Jimena Ayllón from the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club won the bronze medal in both the individual modality, reaching the two semifinals, and the silver medal in the women’s doubles.
Finally, on Sunday, another scoring event was held in Medina del Campo (Valladolid) for the national ranking of the sub-15 and sub-19 categories.
On behalf of the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club, four players moved who won two gold medals and another three silver.
In the U-19 category in the women’s individual, the victory was achieved by Daniela Corchón against her clubmate Ana Peñaranda. In the mixed doubles category, the tables were turned and it was Ana who beat Daniela in the final.
The last silver medal was achieved by Carmen Gómez together with Isabel Corchón in the women’s doubles of the sub-15 category.
