The ATP, which manages the men’s professional tennis circuit, announced this Friday that it will not distribute any points during the next Wimbledon tournament if Russian and Belarusian players continue to be excluded from it due to the invasion of Ukraine.

“If nothing changes, we are very sorry but we see no other possibility than to withdraw the ATP points at Wimbledon for the 2022 edition,” the body announced in a statement.

The British Grand Slam announced on April 20 its intention to exclude Russian and Belarusian players from the 2022 edition as “in the circumstances of unprecedented and unjustified military aggression, it would be unacceptable for the Russian regime to derive any benefit from the participation of Russian or Belarusian players”.

Wimbledon, which will be played from June 27 to July 10, pointed out that the decision, which received significant criticism in the world of tennis, could be reviewed “if circumstances radically change between now and June.”
