World Hockey Championship: May 17 schedule

Today, four games without the participation of the Latvian national team will be played in the world championship in Finland.

In Group B, where Latvia is also starting, the Czech Republic and Austria will fight in Tampere at 16.20 Latvian time, and Great Britain will meet Sweden at 20.20. Both fights will be broadcast live on the television channel “360TV hockey”.

The next game for Latvia is scheduled for Thursday with the Czech Republic.

Finland is at the top of subgroup B with nine points in three matches. Sweden is second with six points in two dues. The third place with five points is taken by the USA, the Czech Republic has three points in two matches, and Latvia has three points. Norway scored two points in three games and Britain and Austria scored two points each in two games.

In the Group A game in Helsinki at 16.20 Latvian time, the battle between Italy and Denmark will take place, but at 20.20 Kazakhstan will meet Switzerland. The first live broadcast of the fight will be broadcast on the television channels “360TV” and “8TV”, but the second – on the 7th channel of Latvian Television (LTV7).

In Group A, Canada has nine points in three matches, six points in two games for Switzerland and three for Germany. Denmark scored three points in two battles and France and Slovakia in three. Kazakhstan and Italy are without points, with two duels behind.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended all Russian and Belarusian teams and clubs from competitions organized by the IIHF. Russia and Belarus will be replaced by France and Austria, which ranked the highest selection of countries not expected to play in the top division.

The 16 teams participating in the tournament are divided into two groups, eight units each, which guarantees seven games for each team in the subgroup competition. After one round of group matches, the four best teams in each subgroup will continue to fight for medals in the quarterfinals, while the weakest teams in the tournament will leave the strongest division last year, with Slovenia and Hungary in the top 16 next year.

The 2022 World Championships in Finland will take place from 13 to 29 May.
