Seiferth came to Upper Franconia at the beginning of 2016, after the native of Berlin had given a one-year guest appearance at Bayern Munich. What was initially “planned only as a transit station was the best thing that could have happened to me back then,” the center is quoted as saying on the club’s website. “I was able to experience incredibly beautiful and successful moments on the pitch, made friends for life and learned a lot at all levels.”

The 55-time German international, who studied in Bayreuth at the same time, emphasizes: “During the past season, which is known to be challenging, my desire for change grew more and more.” So it happened that the contract was no longer extended. “The decision to let Andi go was very hard for me,” says Bayreuth’s new coach Lars Masell. “We will miss Andi and his skills.” However, the club decided to focus more on younger players in the future.

The chance for a new chapter

It is not yet clear where Seiferth will go after 179 Bundesliga games for Bayreuth. “Now that my master’s degree at the University of Bayreuth is on the home straight, I now have the opportunity to attack at a new location and start a new chapter in my career,” he explains.
