DIEMEN Sports halls Diemen looks beautiful. The sports associations can use it for another fifty years.
Sports halls Diemen consists of the newly built sports hall (the green hall) and the renovated old sports hall (the white hall). Both halls are connected to each other and together form Sporthallen Diemen.
SV Zeeburg handball club, Smashing ’72 volleyball club, DKV Victoria korfball club, Blue Stars basketball club and Diemen Badminton Association are regular users of Sporthallen Diemen.
In addition, the children of a number of primary schools, such as De Kersenboom and De Nieuwe Kring, receive gymnastics lessons in Sporthallen Diemen.
Alderman Jeroen Klaasse of Sport and Kevin Boers, municipal project leader Sporthallen Diemen and Sportpark De Diemen, give a tour. Boers: “The new green hall has space for four volleyball courts, three basketball courts and a handball court. The renovated white hall has space for three volleyball courts, two basketball courts and a handball court. Sv Zeeburg plays with resin. This is not possible in the new room due to the floor. That is why the association plays most of its matches in the renovated hall.”
The green room can be divided into three separate rooms, the white room into two separate rooms. Sports halls Diemen has six modern changing rooms and showers. There were four changing rooms in the old sports hall. New are the 115 lockable lockers where athletes can store their valuables.
Sports halls Diemen has two entrances. At the back near the parking lot and at the front opposite the De Nieuwe Kring school. The entrance to the old sports hall has been given the function of an emergency exit.
The ground floor includes a kitchen and bar. Klaasse: “Out-of-school care Popeye uses a lockable room on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If Popeye is not present, that space can be moved to the cafeteria. Additional tables and chairs can then be placed.”
Catering business LaterR, which was located on the first floor in the old sports hall, will not be returning. The municipality is looking for an operator for the canteen on the ground floor in Sporthallen Diemen. The intention is that the entrepreneur will move in before the start of the indoor season, at the beginning of September.
Klaasse: “The new construction and renovation of the old sports hall cost about eight million euros. The new sports complex can last another 50 years. All sports associations and other users are involved in the design process of the sports complex. The new hall (a C.2 sports hall according to NOC*NSF standards) offers many additional options for sports associations. We have chosen not to build a grandstand in the new hall as there is in the renovated hall. That would have cost about a million euros extra. Spectators can sit next to the field in the new hall and watch the matches.”
The municipality has not yet made a decision about how the space that used to house LaterR will be used. There are various options such as possibilities for dance activities and mind sports. A number of residents of Diemen hope that there will be the opportunity to play billiards.
Play facilities will be constructed in front of the entrance to Sporthallen Diemen opposite De Nieuwe Kring.
Naturally, Sporthallen Diemen meets the current sustainability requirements. The building is gasless and (almost) energy neutral. Energy is generated by means of 250 solar panels on the roofs of the building. There are also sedum roofs on the Diemen Sports Halls. They ensure proper drainage of rainwater and cooling, and they are good for biodiversity.
