On Saturday June 11 and Sunday June 12, the badminton club of Fonsorbes, the AFB, received, for the first time, the departmental youth championship during the last days of the circuit. Thus, the best players of the department, including eleven Fonsorbais, competed in the single, double and mixed categories. The event took place at the Clémence Royer high school gymnasium. Saturday was devoted to the singles, and Sunday took place the doubles matches (ladies, men and mixed). The AFB players, who participated in all categories, achieved encouraging results. In singles, one made it to the quarter-finals, two to the semi-finals and one to the final. In doubles (ladies or men), one pair won their draw, two came second and one pair reached the third step of the podium. In mixed doubles, two pairs won their draw and one pair came second. These fine performances by the local team were obtained after very close matches, most of which were played in three sets. The president of the Fonsorb club, Yves Merloz, wanted to express his satisfaction: “This year has been particularly positive for the AFB. The young people have performed very well. The three adult interclub teams have also made “Excellent results. We are thus continuing to make ourselves known in the region. I hope that next season will be just as good sportingly for our club”.
