France Football creates award for best player and under-21 player

The traditional magazine France Football, organizer of the Ballon d’Or award for the best male player, revealed this Monday that it will deliver two more awards: the best football player in the world and the best under-21 athlete on the planet. The awards ceremony will take place on December 3, in Paris.

On October 8, the magazine will publish the list of the thirty athletes who will compete for the award for the best in the world this season, in addition to the 15 players who will compete for the first title in history for the female category. The choice of these finalists will be made by around 40 journalists from countries where women’s football is booming.

The Brazilian Marta should be part of the list of finalists and commented on the creation of the award. “I always wanted to see a woman winning this prestigious award,” said the Brazilian. “It’s a step forward, women’s football is evolving and inequality is decreasing, although there is still room for improvement,” said Wendie Renard, defender for France and Lyon.

The award for the best young athlete has a jury made up of stars. That’s because the magazine determined that the choice will be made by players who won the Golden Ball award. In this way, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, in addition to Brazilians Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka will be judges. The name of this trophy will be Kopa Prize, in honor of the Frenchman Raymond Kopa, winner of the best in the world award in 1958, who passed away last year.
