La Rapière Déodatienne is eagerly awaiting the opening of the second Festoye du Mansuy.

After a successful first attempt last summer, the Festoye du Mansuy is back in force on the weekend of July 9 and 10, still in the Parc Jean-Mansuy but also on the ground floor of the Espace François-Mitterrand. . In force, because the second edition of the Déodatienne medieval festival aims to be richer, larger and more professional than that of last year.

In the organization, we find again the Rapière Déodatienne, which has joined forces with the First Bow Company of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, the City and the Community of Agglomeration. Carole Gilles, secretary of the fencing and artistic association, assures us: there will be no time to get bored during these 2 days with medieval accents. The proposed program is indeed dense and varied, and there will be many things to do on site.

No less than fifty exhibitors, from all over France and neighboring countries such as Belgium and Germany, will be there. Blacksmithing, jewellery, flame beads, costume designers, medieval shoemakers, horn making, woodwork, bow and arrow makers, illuminator in the person of Martine Esparcieux… not forgetting the presence of the Belgian association “Verre Historique », which aims to promote and study old glass. It is in particular “Historic Glass” which has produced glass services from the “Games of Throne” series.

Also taking part will be local associations, such as the naturalist and historian association BERIAN, the Déodatien dog club and the chess club of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, which will offer medieval chess games. The “Donjon Déodatien”, the board game store that recently moved to rue Thiers, will also be present for this second “Festoye du Mansuy”. And on the sidelines of the medieval festival, the Pierre-Noël museum will host illuminations on Monday, July 11. “It is a source of pride for us to be able to share this moment with other associations, businesses and structures in the sector, while allowing them to be visible” underlines Sébastien Florent, president of the Rapière Déodatienne.

In terms of entertainment, here too the organizers have not done things by halves, with a reconstituted medieval camp, ancient fencing matches, a storyteller, an introduction to archery, calligraphy and painting, embroidery, basketry and bookbinding demonstrations. The musical part will not be outdone, with music and medieval songs from the Hauvoy company throughout the weekend, and a concert by the Trecanum ensemble on Sunday evening to close the party. And it will of course be possible to eat and drink like in the Middle Ages, sitting down at the Auberge de l’Enchanteur. On the menu: grilled meats and vegetables.

All this knowing that the festivities will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, that the entrance fee is set at 1 euro (free for children passing under the guard of the 2-handed sword), but that all the activities of the weekend end will be free. And like last year, costumes are more than welcome. As for the future, the Rapière Déodatienne wants to perpetuate the event and develop new partnerships, so that the Festoye du Mansuy becomes one of the key events of the Déodatien summer.
