Petro-Canada recognizes recipients of Team Canada’s James Worrall Flag Bearer Award for Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 – Team Canada

After being honored to wear the Canadian colors during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, 11 Olympic and Paralympic athletes were recognized with the James Worrall Flag Bearer Award.

The group of flag bearers includes:

Miranda Ayim (basketball) – Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony
Nathan Hirayama (rugby) – Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony
Damian Warner (athletics) – Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony

Isabelle Weidemann (long track speed skating) – Closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games

The James Worrall Standard Bearer Award was presented by Petro-Canada for the first time to flag bearers at the 2002 Olympics. Paralympic Games flag bearers first received this award in 2004.

Worrall carried the Canadian flag at the Opening Ceremony of the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he competed in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. After retiring from competitive athletics, Worrall began a long career in sports administration. He was a Team Canada Chef de Mission at four Olympic Games (twice as an assistant) before becoming President of the Canadian Olympic Association and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
