Princess Yuriko, the currently oldest member of the Japanese Imperial family, celebrated her 99th birthday on June 4. She is the aunt of the retired Emperor Akihito, who is the current ruler’s father.
The princess lives peacefully in her home in Tokyo. Her daily routine consists of half-hour stretching exercises, reading newspapers and magazines, and strolling around her garden in a wheelchair when the sun is out. She also enjoys watching baseball games live on television.
Although she had been hospitalized for four days in March 2021 after being diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (a heart abnormality), her general health is not of particular concern, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
