RD adds five medals in Bolivarian Games

THE NEW DAILY, VALLEDUPAR, Colombia. The Dominican Republic shone again with five medals on the third day of the XIX Bolivarian Games that are held in this city with delegations from 11 countries.

Karate, with the gold for Pamela Rodríguez, and the bronze for Carlos Herrera, continued to contribute to the medal table.

Judo added two silver medals with Creymailin Valdez and Albis Castro, and badminton, with the mixed team, repeated the bronze obtained in Santa Marta 2017.

With the performance, in the absence of competitions for medals this Sunday, the Dominican Republic appears with two gold medals, five silver and four bronze.

Pamela and Herrera contribute two other medals in karate

Pamela Rodríguez rightly claimed the title of the category over 68 kilos by defeating Colombian Shane Torres 1-0 on the day of the karate tournament.

In addition to Rodríguez, Carlos Herrera, also a karate fighter, also entered the medal table, who won the bronze in the minus 75 kilos category.

Pamela Rodríguez imposed her progress in the multisport event four years later, after the silver medal obtained in the Santa Marta edition in 2017.

Judocas Valdez and Castro, silver in the Bolivarians of Valledupar

Creymarlin Valdez and Albis José Castro kept silver medals after falling in the finals of their respective categories this Sunday in the judo tournament.

Creymarlin ranked second in the women’s minus 63 kilos category when she lost to Cindy Paola Mera, from Colombia.

In her first match, Valdez defeated Panamanian Allyson Quevedo Muñoz, and in the semifinal she dispatched Peruvian Ángel Arianna Cornejo Vargas-Machuca.

Albis Castro, in minus 81 kilos, lost the final against Colombian Alexander Martínez Borja, who won gold.

In the quarterfinals, Castro defeated Diego Noguera Areco, from Paraguay, and in the semifinal he beat Johneluis Patete Rojas, from Venezuela.

With the medals this Sunday, judo adds a total of four medals, including three silver and one bronze.

Badminton mixed team repeats the bronze Bolivarian Games

The Dominican badminton team won the bronze medal by winning 3-2 against their counterpart from El Salvador in the match for third place in the mixed team competitions of the tournament in this discipline.

The match between the teams from the Dominican Republic and El Salvador lasted five rounds and was decided in the third set of the mixed doubles showdown.

The Dominicans obtained the bronze medal after the mixed duo made up of Yónatan Linarez and Clarisa Pie won 21-18, 16-21, 21-11 against the Salvadoran duet made up of Javier Arias and Fátima Centeno.

In the men’s singles round, Ernick Zorrilla fell 10-21, 11-21 to Salvadoran Uriel Francisco Canjura, who kept control of the match from start to finish.

Nairobi Jiménez demonstrated her superiority by beating Daniela Hernández 21-12, 21-9, who had no answer against the strong dunks of the Dominican left-hander in the women’s singles round.

In men’s doubles, the Salvadoran duo had the better part by dominating in straight sets 21-14, 21-13. While, in women’s doubles, the Dominican team won the match and tied the actions at two rounds per side. The Salvadoran duo won the first set 21-12, the second and third set went to the Creoles 21-10 and 21-16 to add the bronze, the second they have achieved in this type of competition after winning the medal in the Games of Santa Marta, Colombia, in 2017.
