Less than a year after its remarkable debut at the Olympic Games, the basketball 3×3 organizes the seventh World Cup in its history.
The best players on the planet are meeting in Antwerp to compete on the Groenplats. Players from the People’s Republic of China and representatives from the United States will challenge their titles from June 21-26 in what promises to be a spectacular week.

Teams to watch at the 3×3 Basketball World Cup
Latvia will try to win the first world title in its history for men. The team led by Nauris Miezis remains on a gold medal at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, in 2021, and had been beaten in the final of the 2019 World Cup by the United States.
It is therefore the Americans who will arrive in Antwerp to defend the title won in Amsterdam three years ago. The players selected to allow Team USA to aim for the double are: Kidani Brutus, Khalil Iverson, Dominique Jones et James Parrott. It’s a totally revamped squad from the 2019 World Cup.
Serbia, who have won the world title four times and currently occupy the top spot in the world rankings, will be particularly eagerly awaited. In particular, it can rely on Strahinja Stojacicthe number 1 player in the FIBA rankings.
Belgium at home or France which is in the world top 10 are among the outsiders.
On the women’s side, the People’s Republic of China will try to retain their title. The teammates of Wang Lili, co-top scorer at Tokyo 2020, are favorites to succeed themselves. They remain on a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in 2021.
The Chinese basketball players had beaten France in the small final. The Tricolores are expected and can hope to win the title which has always been refused to it so far. They have climbed the planetary podium three times but never on the top step of the podium. And if it was for this year?
To succeed, Laetitia Guapo & co will in particular have to overcome the Americans, Olympic champions in title. As with the men, Team USA has been heavily revamped and will come without the players who were crowned at Tokyo 2020. The most anticipated American player will be Hailey van LithMVP of the U18 World Cup in 2019.
World-leading Germany and reigning European champions Spain could also be formidable with players like Sonja Greinacher or Sandra Ygueravide.
At home, the Belgian team can count on Julie Vanloo who had participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in basketball.

The format of the 3×3 Basketball World Cup
Twenty teams are qualified for the women’s tournament and as many in the men’s tournament. They were divided into four groups of five.
At the end of the group stage, the winner of each group advances directly to the quarter-finals. The second and the third are qualified for the round of 16.
The competition continues with a knockout phase until the final which will crown the winner of the 2022 3×3 Basketball World Cup.
