Serena Williams returns to Wimbledon with a ‘wild card’

Serena Williamswinner of 23 Grand Slams, play the tournament Wimbledonas announced on Tuesday by the organizers of the London tournament.

The American, winner seven times at the All England Club, suffered a foot injury in the first round of Wimbledon 2021 and has not competed since.

Serena, 40 years old, public a photo on Instagram in which he mentioned the London tournament with the addition “it’s the date. See you there”. Hours after suggesting that she could play this ‘Grand Slam’, the organizers made public the invitations for this edition, among which is the American player, specifically in the individual draw.

Serena plans to return to the courts at the next tournament in Eastbourne, which will serve as her preparation for Wimbledon. Here she will play in the doubles draw alongside Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, a finalist at Wimbledon last season.

Serena seeks to equal the 24 Grand Slams of the Australian Margaret Court, the one who has achieved the most in history, and has failed twice in her attempt at Wimbledon, when she reached the final in 2018 and 2019, both after her motherhood. The American is currently 1,208 in the WTA ranking.
