Two bronzes for Latvians in the European Judo Championship for cadets

From June 23 to 26, 420 of Europe’s best cadets competed in the Croatian city of Poreč, winning the European Judo Championships “Poreč 2022”. 40 countries were represented in the championship and 556 fights were held.

The team of Latvian judo cadets was represented in this championship by Anna Gulīte (-57kg), who started the fight by defeating the representative of Montenegro, in the quarterfinals Anna was also superior to the Croatian judo, A. Gulīte !

Maksims Bižāns (-90kg) started the fight by celebrating the victory over the Hungarian judoist, in the quarterfinals Maksims won the victory over the athlete from Ukraine, in the semi-finals M. Bižāns had to admit the superiority of the Serbian competitor. In the next bronze final, Maxim proved his mastery by winning the French representative and winning the bronze award!

Jēkabs Jēkabsons (-55kg) in the first fight gave way to a Slovak judoist.

Ernest Laufman (-81kg) acknowledged the superiority of the Austrian competitor.

Ronald Plostnieks (-81kg) suffered a loss in a fight with an opponent from Bulgaria.

Jānis Strazdiņš (+ 90kg) started the fight hopefully, beating the Azerbaijani judoist, but then, unfortunately, gave in to an athlete from France.

The Latvian Judo Federation (LDF) congratulates the winners of the bronze medals and their coaches with their excellent performance, as well as thanks all the athletes and their coaches for their work!
