According to what was indicated by the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) through its account on the social network Twitter, the podium was made up of: Rubén Limardo, who won a Gold medal; Gabriel Lugo, with a Silver medal, and Francisco Limardo, with a Bronze medal, reports the AVN portal.

«The historical podium of the men’s individual backstroke in the Pan American of Asunción: Rubén Limardo. Gabriel Lugo. Francis Limardo. Living history of Venezuelan, continental and world fencing,” the COV wrote in a message.

Likewise, with this podium made up of the Limardo brothers (Rubén and Francisco), Venezuela achieved a historic event by obtaining three of the four medals to be distributed in the continental contest.

On the other hand, with this gold medal, Rubén Limardo became the most successful athlete in men’s backstroke at the Pan American Championships in history, with his gold medals in San Salvador (2009), Santiago (2015), Montreal (2017 ), Toronto (2019) and Asunción (2022), adding 10 medals in total since 2008.

«5th gold medal in Pan American Championships. The best? Today we made a historic podium with gold, silver and bronze for the country. I repeat to my team: I don’t want to go to @ Paris2024 alone », Rubén Limardo wrote on his Twitter account.
