Manager Frank Baumann announced a new signing for the training camp – and he delivered!
The day before leaving for Zell am Ziller, Bremen announced the transfer of Denmark international Jens Stage (25) from FC Copenhagen. The attacking midfielder travels to Austria with his new colleagues on Thursday and will be on the training ground for the first time in the afternoon.
According to BILD information, Stage has signed a contract until 2026 and will cost Werder EUR 4 million. Success-related bonus payments (e.g. reaching the Europa League several times) can increase the transfer fee to a maximum of EUR 8 million.
Coach Ole Werner is happy: “Up to now he has mainly played in midfield in the center or in the eighth position. He’s physically good and well-trained as a footballer.”
Good omen: The Dane (market value: 3.5 million euros according to transfermarkt.de) is a similar type of player and comes from the same club as midfielder Thomas Delaney (30), who got off to a good start at Werder and now plays in Seville .
Will Stage become the new Delaney?
Werder’s new hope: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Bundesliga. Werder Bremen is a well-known club in Denmark, if only because of its proximity to the national border. When I found out about the interest, it was immediately clear to me that I wanted to take this opportunity. I can’t wait to step out in front of the fans in this stadium.”
Björnmose, Röntved, Jensen, Delaney – the list of successful Danes in the Werder jersey is long. Now there is great hope that Stage in Bremen will also cause a sensation.
Professional boss Clemens Fritz to BILD: “He is very open, a good guy. During the talks we noticed how much he wanted to play at Werder. He is certainly not a transfer of perspective, but we should give him the time to find his way around.
After Dikeni Salifou, Niklas Stark and Amos Pieper, Stage is Werder’s first new signing who can also make a mark on offense. In 206 competitive games for Copenhagen and Aarhus GF, Stage scored 32 goals and also provided 18 assists.
Werner: “We are convinced that he can help our game directly.”
+++ Stage is here, Badjie is gone. Attacker Kebba Badjie (22/last loaned out to Halle) is moving to third division promoted VfB Oldenburg on a free transfer.
