On July 22, 1933, with the country immersed in the euphoria of the silver medals won by boxer Francisco Cabañas and fencer Gustavo Huet at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the decree issued by Abelardo L. Rodríguez was finalized, then substitute president of the Republic, to create an organization that would direct the course of federated sport in Mexico, that is how the Mexican Sports Confederation (CODEME), an organization that 89 years after its foundation seeks to strengthen itself in the fulfillment of the task entrusted to it.

In a sober ceremony, the president Francis Heads celebrated another anniversary of the CODEMEwith the firm conviction of adapting to the current times in Mexican sports.
“It is a true honor for the CODEME board of directors to join us and witness the 89th anniversary of the formation of the Mexican Sports Confederation, without a doubt the challenges to come will not be stronger than our desire to maintain a worthy, huge CODEME and above all, an institution of work and support for the development of Mexican sports”, said the leader.
For its part, Jorge Castro, secretary of the board of directors of CODEME, recalled how those first years of the Confederation were, which emerged with the support of 24 federations and had a structure that brought together 32 sports areas, that is, the then 28 states, the Federal District and the three federal territories. Today the organization affiliates 74 national federations and 13 related organizations.

“The founding national sports federations were athletics, bbaseball, basketball, bowling, boxing, hunting and fishing, charroscycling, horse riding, fencing, shooting, scouts, soccer, American football, racquetball, gymnastics, swimming, roller skating, softball, polo, tennis, volleyball, regattas and badminton,” he explained.
“Today we celebrate the eighty ninth anniversary of the presidential decree that gave rise to CODEME, we find ourselves with an institution that remains firm in its original ideals of consolidating sport and athletes, through the national federations, in their union, defense and protection, knowing that the federations they constitute a basic pillar where the national sport is constituted”, he added.
