European University Games 2022: judo and karate are underway
Rome, 22 July 2022 – The European University Games 2022, staged in Lodz (Poland), started on 17 July and will end on Saturday 30 July. Student-athletes from all over Europe are competing in 20 sports disciplines and there are around 5,000 participants, representing over 400 European universities from 40 countries.
The participating Italian universities, among all disciplines, are 12 with 53 registered athletes. The debut of Judo and Karate is just around the corner: from Sunday 24th to Tuesday 26th it will be the turn of the 5 judokas representing the CUS of Camerino (4) and the CUS of Rome Tor Vergata (1); from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30, instead, it will be the turn of 10 karateka from the University of Messina (1), from the CUS of Teramo (1), from the CUS of Brescia (4), from the CUS of Verona (2), from the CUS of ‘Insubria (1) and the CUS of Salerno (1).

Al PalaPellicone l’Event Organization Workshop della UWW
Rome, 22 July 2022 – The United World Wrestling workshop for the organization of events took place today at the Matteo Pellicone Olympic Center.
Indeed, in recent years Fijlkam and L’Italia della Lotta have become protagonists in the organization of prestigious events dedicated to international wrestling. Starting from the Junior European Championships and the Cadet World Championships in Faenza in 2018, passing through the Senior European Championships in Rome in 2020 and ending, in 2022, with a high-level trio such as the Ranking Series, the Junior European Championships and the U17 World Cup which will start on Monday 25 July.
Great satisfaction of the participants from all over the world who took part in the event, opened by the Fijlkam President Domenico Falcone, accompanied by the Secretary General Massimiliano Benucci and the UWW representatives Salvatore Finizio, Yuri Mayer and the sport manager Director Jean Daniel Rey.
Before starting the work, a minute of silence was dedicated to the Italian Team Manager and UWW member Lucio Caneva, who died prematurely yesterday.
The U17 Fighting World Championships at PalaPellicone are starting on Monday
Rome, 22 July 2022 – At the Palazzetto Olimpico FIJLKAM in Ostia everything is ready for the U17 World Wrestling Championships, starting from Monday 25 July until Sunday 31. It will be the third international event, signed by FIJLKAM and UWW, staged here in Rome in this 2022. A great federal result, strongly desired by the management of the sector, in particular by the Vice President Gianni Morsiani and the late Team Manager Lucio Caneva, who passed away yesterday.
It will also be to remember him in the best way, then, that our kids will try to give everything on the mats, in search of prestigious medals.
Here are all the players called: Melissa Doroftei, Angelina Crapio Casarola, Fabiana Rinella, Alice Faccio, Denise Piroddu, Elena Nicolodi, Rosalia Mutolo, Alessia Amendola, Anna Iodice and Giorgia D’Antimi for women; Ricardo Bonanno, Carmine Caiazza, Omar El Fazazi, Pasquale Liuzzi, Alessandro Nini, Matteo Mini, Daniele Gubbiotti, Raul Caso, Mirko De Nichilo, Jacopo Giusti, Martino Piliero and Giulio Spiridigliozzi for freestyle; Gabriele Pucher, Federico Raccagni, Salvatore Materia, Federico Caniglia, Alessandro Grespi, Michael Rindone, Kevin Kazazi, Matteo Orselli, Riccardo Bufis and Cristian Catini in Roman Greek.
As for the time schedule, on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th it will be the qualifying round of the Greco-Roman wrestling, on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th it will be the women’s turn and on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th the men’s freestyle. The finals will always be played on the day following the preliminary rounds of each category.
Every morning, from 11:30, it will be possible to follow the live streaming on the uww.org website. The finals, starting from Tuesday, will be from 18:00.
