The ship with the Uruguayan flag Fjord III owned by the owner S. Perry Winthrop, launched in 1946 and measuring 14.88 meters in length, has been proclaimed the winner of the VI Puerto Sherry Classic Week, Pedro Bores Memorial after winning the third and last test held this Saturday in the waters of the Cadiz bay. The Uruguayans have done what they should have done and after winning the last match against the 11.50 meter Maelar 30 from 1956, Seventy, from Club Estrella del Viento in Malaga, armed by Segundo de Pablo with Dani Cuevas at the helm, resolve the tie and they win by one point, which gives them the triple victory as winners of the joint general, the JCH Spanish Cup and the CIM Época Spanish Cup.

For its part, Seventy wins the CIM Clásico Spanish Cup, while Eric Perignat’s 9-metre Buzz Lightyear Starlight 29 flying the RCN flag from El Puerto de Santa María, third overall, wins the RETRO class, and among the MINI the victory goes to the Norse Boat 17.5 of the year 2009 and 5.33 meters, Laro, from the Fundación de Vela Clásica de España, a victory that he owes to his victory in the last test, which has allowed him to rent a point over the Charles Sibbick of the CN Puerto Sherry, Madcap, the oldest ship in the fleet launched in 1902 and 6.75 meters long, and two on the ship of the Canarian Latin Sailing Federation, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 5 meters long.

In the JCH Spanish Cup after Fjord III and Seventy, third place goes to the Yawl Marconi of 1951 and 20.22 meters in length, the Portuguese Sea Lion, owned by Manuel Champalimaud, accompanied by some of the best Spanish cruiser sailors and Andalusians. The Spanish Cups of the CIM category, in Period, Fjord III wins over the boat of the Classical Sailing Foundation, Gipsy, launched in 1927, and among the Classics, together with the Seventy, the positions of honor are for the Yawl Marconi Giraldilla of the year 1963 from Valle de la Riva skippered by Petete Rubio, and the boat of the Classical Sailing Foundation of Spain, of the same model launched in 1961, Folia.

Lastly, in the RETRO class, second and third place go to the Furia 37 Salina Tres of José Antonio Ruiz with the RCN de Cádiz flag, and the H Boat Infiel with a shared flag between the CN Puerto Sherry and the CAND de Chipiona, manned on this last day by Esther Duarte and the very young (9 years old) Lidia Hernández.

The farewell day was the windiest day, with a west wind of 9 knots of average intensity for a coastal stretch of more than eight miles from the start at Cabezuela, a beacon in front of Vistahermosa beach, ascent to Galera and arrival in front of the Puerto Sherry tower for the longest boats, and one of 3.9 miles for the MINI class boats. The choice of board from the exit to Cabezuela was decisive for the boats that opted for the land one, and among them, the Portuguese Sea Lion managed to pass in front of the Uruguayans of the Fjord III, who opted for the board closest to Cádiz, and keep their heads up throughout the course until taking the finish line in first place, followed by the Uruguayans and the boat from Huelva Disparate, a Caravel model from 1971 and 16.22 meters from the owner Ricardo Contreras. After the compensation of times, the Portuguese lacked distance and conceded a third behind Seventy and Fjord III with the most opportune victory of the day.

After the regatta, at night, the trophies were awarded on the terrace of the Puerto Sherry Hotel, in an act that Valle de la Riva presided over again as president of the Puerto Sherry CN, accompanied by Federico Superville, president of the Naval Commission of regattas; David de la Encina, Deputy for Social Welfare of the Cádiz Provincial Council and Lola Campos, Councilor for Sports of the El Puerto de Santa María City Council.

The VI Classic Week, Pedro Bores Memorial, which ends today in the waters of the Bay of Cadiz, was organized by the CN Puerto Sherry, Marina de El Puerto de Santa María, SL and the Fundación de Vela Clásica de España, with the collaboration of the RFEV and the FAV, the main sponsorship of Gipsy 1927, Clinica Dental Dr. Pérez Jiménez, Cruzcampo and the City Council of El Puerto de Santa María, having as official partners Grupo Omega, Grupo Cunado, ‘Gica, real estate consultants of the province of Cadiz’ and Cadiz Provincial Council.
