At 45, Mbo Mpenza is about to take up a new challenge. The former Standard de Liège striker in particular becomes the president of Mandel United, a club based in Izegem, in West Flanders, and which plays in National 1, the third level of Belgian football. He announced it himself on his networks, saying that he had “been contacted by the club’s new majority shareholder, who has bought out the shares of Strive Football Group.”
“I am more than motivated to repay the trust that has been placed in me by putting in place a new structure and a new team that will ensure that the club can continue to develop while respecting Mandel’s values, indicates the one who has 52 games with the Red Devils.
Our first objective will be to create a team that will make sure to stabilize financially and to perform on the sporting level with a competent and competitive group.
People who know me know that uniting is part of my values. It is important to me to bring together the strengths of the Izegem training center, a quality center, while counting on the support of the educators, coaches and managers of Futurosport in Mouscron. In this way, I hope to give hope to an entire region that has been put on the map thanks to football.
The keyword for this new start will therefore be “united”: a local, ambitious project, beyond the linguistic border, but above all: from and for everyone.
All together, we are working behind the scenes to prepare for this new season.”
