At that time she was already among the best in her age group: in 2013, at the age of 13, Gwinn made her debut in the U15 national team, and she played a total of 52 international matches in five different youth national teams.
But things were also going well for the young Gwinn at club level: Birgit Bauer from SC Freiburg was already impressed by Gwinn’s talent in 2013 and brought her to Breisgau two years later.

At the time, Gwinn was still very young – and yet the next step followed: She made her debut in the Bundesliga at the age of just 16 years, two months and eleven days! By way of comparison, at the time youths under the age of 17 were not allowed to play in the men’s Bundesliga and even now there are only two players who have ever been younger than Giulia Gwinn in the Bundesliga: Youssoufa Moukoko (men, Borussia Dortmund) and Paul Wanner (Men, Bayern Munich).
At that time she came on for Sandra Starke, who had been substituted, in the game against 1. FC Köln, and less than a month later she was in the starting XI for the first time. Almost two months later, she scored her first goal as a professional.

The senior national team was not long in coming either: on November 24, 2017, a good two years after her professional debut at SC Freiburg, Gwinn came on as a substitute in the international match against France.
Gwinn was already a core part of the team at the 2019 World Cup, scoring the only goal of the game against China in the tournament’s first game. Speaking of the national team: In September 2020, Gwinn suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the international match against Ireland. Now she wants to attack with the German national team at the European Championship.
