That’s why the frenzy escalated. That’s why the referee went to the monitor to see with his own eyes the clash between Hejda and the escaping Teplice substitute Kodad. Hence the long interruptions, waiting and getting on each other’s nerves.
“I also thought that he was going to investigate the penalty, but it wasn’t about that. The referee just went to see if he should have shown Hejd a straight red,” Jarošík claimed, adding that his heart rate soon returned to normal.
“Moreover, I have already experienced something similar in Slovenia. Also at 2:2, also in the set time. And we didn’t even give that penalty then,” memories of the first big engagement in Celje came back to the home coach.
Maybe he should have put them out of his mind. Or he should have dissuaded league debutant Jakub Urbanek from leaving the execution of the penalty kick to one of his teammates in such a tense moment.
“But I trusted her. A league premiere at 30, with two goals for the champion Pilsen, so why not go for a penalty? Waiting for the referee’s final verdict was not pleasant, but it did not throw me off. I already kicked penalties in Žižkov and converted them, so I dared to do it in Teplice as well,” the 30-year-old debutant on the league scene, Jakub Urbanec, probably wouldn’t have been discouraged when referee Machálek confirmed his verdict.
“I had already decided where I was going to shoot, but Staněk read me and took the penalty,” he immediately regretted the unconverted penalty kick, which he could have used to knock down the defending champion. Even so, it was a Hollywood premiere for him…
“After all, I played in the Prague championship last September for Viktorka Žižkov,” he recalled his story, which continued under coach Jarošík in Prostějov, so that now the league’s happy ending came in Teplice.
He could, but he wasn’t. Urbanec did not complete the hat trick and the North Bohemians “only” drew with champion Viktoria.
“And we were happy, because immediately after the unconverted penalty, Plzeň had a huge chance to decide the match,” admitted the home coach Jarošík, that in the last seconds of the endless setup, the heart rate soared again, when the visiting Dedič narrowly missed Grigar’s goal.
Michal Bílek by itself as well.
“Not to. You lose by two goals, after the equalizer you think about how to score a third goal and after kick-off a penalty kick comes against us. Thank God that Staněk caught him. And right after that, in the last seconds, another one of our 100% opportunities, which we will not convert,” the Pilsen coach took with gratitude that the entry into the league ended with at least a division of points.
“We learned our lesson. If we want to win, we have to play the whole 90 minutes and not just in the second half like in Teplice. Which applies to the domestic league, as well as to the European cups,” Bílek recalled the qualifying confrontation for the Champions League with Sheriff Tiraspol, which awaits his charges on Tuesday in Moldova.
