Hilgers about asking price FC Twente: “That’s quite big, isn’t it?”

Arne Slot still sees FC Twente defender Mees Hilgers as a potential reinforcement for Feyenoord. For the time being, the asking price of 6 million euros is too much, but the trainer has drawn a line. The 21-year-old defender himself confirms this in conversation with the NOS.

There Hilgers says that Slot sought contact by telephone. “With my agent”, he clarifies. “I haven’t talked to him personally. There has been contact, and there may still be.” It is no secret that Feyenoord is interested in Hilgers, who still has a one-year contract with Twente with an option for another year. But the club from Enschede is asking no less than 6 million euros.

“That’s a lot, isn’t it?” Hilgers also thinks about the asking price of his club. “When I’m at home on the couch, I sometimes wonder whether I’m really worth that. But I understand Twente. They want to get the most out of it. Last year I was worth a ton, now suddenly six million. It’s possible go fast.”

The Netherlands
Hilgers himself said that he did not necessarily want to leave. “If I would leave, it would not come from me. Then it would come from the club who are interested.” In that case, it would be a step within the Netherlands, for example to Feyenoord. “I think I’m still too young to go abroad now. First stay in the Netherlands, where my family and friends are and where I can develop best.”

“I think I have to stay in the Netherlands for another three or four years before I would make such a step,” he said about his future plans. “I could do it, but for the development of a young player it is better to stay longer in the Netherlands. It is better to go a little later than too early,” he concluded.
