The tournament, which is played in the sub-13, sub-15, sub-17 and sub-19 categories, enters the quarterfinal phase this Wednesday.
The first seed of the sub-19 category was imposed in two sets (21-6, 21-12) to the Brazilian Erick Furuchi.
Lai will face the Guatemalan Ramiro Alonso Espinoza for the search to settle in the semifinal.
In the female branch, the Canadian Jackie Dent She surprised the favorite Vanessa García, from Mexico, after beating her in three sets (20-22, 21-19, 21-7) to reach the quarterfinals.
