“Miesnieki/Ķekava” beat the rugby players of Garkalne “Livonia” with 26:23 in the Latvian championship match between the two best rugby clubs of Latvia in the Latvian championship game on Thursday in the Baldones stadium.
The hosts “Miesnieki” were in the lead for almost the entire game, but they saved themselves from the loss only in the last seconds. In the first ten minutes, they were much more active than their opponents and achieved an 8-0 advantage with a penalty kick and a touchdown. In the continuation, “Livonia” took over the initiative, but was able to recover only three points, but as the end of the first half approached, the Kekavians scored another touchdown – 13:3.
In the first part of the second half, the guests responded to two accurate penalty kicks by the home team with a touchdown, a conversion and a penalty, which allowed them to reduce the advantage of “Miesnieku” to 19:13. But in the last 5-7 minutes, the rugby players of “Livonia” made two touchdowns one after the other, took the lead for the first time in the game (23:19) and already started to rejoice for the almost won victory.
However, the rugby players of “Miesnieki/Ķekava” had one last chance and, patiently and persistently building an attack for almost ten minutes, they achieved their goal – a touchdown, a precise shot and a victory in an exciting battle 26:23.
This was the second game for both teams in the Latvian championship. Previously, “Livonia” had defeated the “Mūku sala/Lāči” team with a crushing result of 127:3, but the rugby players of “Ķekava/Miesnieki” defeated the rugby club “Eži” 47:17.
