“Today’s Webtoon” has shared a sneak peek of the transformation of Nam Yoon Su on brainiac Goo Joon Young!
A Korean remake of the popular 2016 Japanese series “Sleepeeer Hit!” “Today’s Webtoon” is a new SBS drama set against the backdrop of South Korea’s competitive webtoon industry. Kim Sejeong She will play On Ma Eum, a former judo athlete who joins the editorial department of a webtoon as a new employee and struggles to mature into a true editor.
Nam Yoon Su plays Goo Joon Young, who joins the editorial department of the webtoon alongside On Ma Eum. The new elite employee, Goo Joon Young, has always been an excellent student, with good looks and a way with words. The combination of these traits with his polite manners and good attitude means that Goo Joon Young is in the spotlight no matter where he goes.
Up to this point, it seems like Goo Joon Young has it all. However, Nam Yoon Su described the character as a “new bird in society.” Once Goo Joon Young is hired, he is appointed to the newly established webtoon editorial department. Despite having lived as an honor student his entire life, the fact that he has minimal knowledge of webtoons immediately causes him to be treated as an inferior at work.
Nam Yoon Su explained, “Joon Young, who thought that a good workplace, a good department, and promotions were a no-brainer, is facing an unpredictable situation. As he tries to do the dirty work for the first time, he adapts to the roles he has been assigned and gains new realizations.”
That’s why before filming, Nam Yoon Su focused more on his own attitude, as “this is the first time that we are new employees, both for me and Joon Young.” He explained, “As a new employee and an actor playing that role, I thought it was more important than anything else to have an attitude of being willing to work diligently and do my best for a fresh start.”
The actor also shared why he chose to play Joon Young, saying, “I always want to try characters I haven’t done before.” In his latest project, Nam Yoon Su played an innocent sweet and romantic, while Goo Joon Young is the complete opposite.
Lastly, Nam Yoon Su shared, “Throughout this project, I learned that it takes a lot of time and effort to create a single webtoon issue, and that it takes incredible determination to meet deadlines. The struggles and efforts of the writers, who think competitively so that the readers can comfortably enjoy themselves, and the webtoon editors, who protect and support [a los escritores]They were touching.”
“Today’s Webtoon” will premiere following the end of “Why Her?” on July 29 at 10 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki!
