• As already reported, in the last match of the group, Namiķe/Brailko beat the Italians yesterday, winning the group.
• Won in the groups Anete Namiķe/Varvara Brailko now played against Americans Maddie Anderson and Molly Turner, against whom they had not played before. Anderson, a representative of the “Florida State” team, fought against our own Tina Graudin in the NCAA finals this spring, while Turner was the best player of “Grand Canyon” for several years before that.
→ In today’s first set, the opponents scored five points in a row (6:13), while ours responded with two three-point series (9:13, 12:14) and scored even six in a row – 18:16. The American women equalized (19:19), but ours triumphed in the end – 24:22.
→ → At the beginning of the next set, the Latvian duet was in the lead (2:5), the opponents made a series of seven points (5:14), thus it was 12:21.
→ → → In the third set, Namiķe/Brailko took the lead (2:1) and increased the advantage (5:3), but in the continuation the initiative was seized by the opponents (7:8) and they scored three points in a row – 11:14. Thus had to compromise with 12:15.
• Namiķe/Brailko have previously reached the semi-finals of the world stage once, in December 2018 it happened at the one-star stage in Ljubljana.
• Namiķe and Brailko are playing with other partners this season – Līva Ābere and Daniela Konstantinova, the U20 European Championship is currently taking place.
• We remind you that Namiķe/Brailko is going to represent the Latvian women’s national team, which 2.-7. in August will compete in the CEV Nations Cup, or the European Championship for national teams.
