Road cycling: Hugo Houle masterful at the Tour de France ???????? ????

Cyclist Hugo Houle achieved a tour de force in the Tour de France during the 13th stage by signing a historic third position.

In a thrilling three-way finish, 2019 world champion Mads Pedersen of Denmark completed the 193km first ahead of Briton Fred Wright and Houle. In the last meters of the race, the Quebec cyclist found himself a little stuck between his two rivals and could not match the speed of Pederson, who finished well ahead.

Houle was part of a group of seven riders leading the race for more than 140 km. Their lead grew to more than three minutes, but the peloton refused to give them a bigger margin in order to eventually catch up with them. A fall within the peloton however thwarted the plans of the aspiring teams, so that the stage victory would be decided in the breakaway group.

With about ten kilometers to go, the trio launched an attack and broke away from the rest of the group to set the stage for the end of the race at three.

This is the best result for a Quebec cyclist in the history of the Tour de France. Steve Bauer is the only Canadian to win a stage in 1988.
